Blue is my favourite colour!

I've had this fabric for quite sometime and have had it out a time or two to consider what I might make with it.

Well, I finally figured something out. Originally I matched it up with a green fabric as an accent, but it just didn't inspire me, so I stuck to the blue print and a matching blue monotone print.

And from the selvage edges of the fabric, a mug rug of course!

And now, there's not much left of that pretty blue foliage print except a few scraps that are going in my scrap basket!

Do you have a fav fabric that you are waiting for just the right project?

Chevron Quilt Finishes!

Here's the two chevron quilts that I recently finished! The blue, grey and white one is off to it's new home in Texas.

When I had the pieces from the above quilt on the design wall, I wondered what it would look like with the addition of some coral stripes. I found a great salmon colour that looks fabulous with the blue and grey and made a baby quilt.

I've been backing more of my baby quilts with the Minky fabric that's so popular with baby blankets, and no wonder, as it's soft character lasts and lasts! This one is backed with a Tiffany blue and it just begs to be cuddled with!

And the chevron continues to be a popular choice at Magpie Quilts and I have an order for a pink one that I need to get done this week!

And Another Chevron Quilt

One of the challenges of selling quilts online is that colors are not always shown true on every monitor or screen. When I get a request for a custom quilt, I will often ask for a paint chip number so I can find the right fabric for that quilt.
Matching fabrics to paint chips
These fabrics are for a twin sized chevron quilt and I think I found a pretty close match with these Robert Kaufmann Kona solid cottons.
Ready to cut!

New Year, New Quilts!

While doing my year end inventory of fabric and sorting and cleaning up the projects that like to spread out all over my sewing room, I found a few left over half square triangles from a baby quilt I did a few months back. I had set these aside with the idea that I would make another baby quilt with a different layout of the same half square triangle blocks.
Blue & Grey Baby Quilt with Minky back
In this quilt, I used four of the half square triangles to make a modified version of the Broken Dishes quilt block (found here).
Looking good in a wintery photo!
A few of the blocks are a little different - some have a colored fabric instead of the white and a couple have a colored triangle filling out one corner of the block (one up from bottom right).
Just hanging out!
I took this one in to my local quilt shop My Sewing Room and used their long arm machine to quilt it and I have to say I loved using the long-arm. I loved how easy it was to "draw" my quilting on the quilt surface rather than maneuvering the fabric under the needle of my home machine and I loved how the stitch regulator kept my stitching even, regardless of how fast or slow I was operating the machine.

I think this might be one of my fav baby quilts I've made for a long time!

Monday Mumblings

Good sunny Monday morning!
I have a huge list of things to get done this week and not sure if I'll actually get anywhere on that list, but blogging seems to be a good way to procrastinate!

American Banner from Moda Coasters - For Sale
Last week we took the RV out for a few days and I took along my sewing machine and a few projects. I've had so many big quilts that I've been working on, and it was a nice change to work on some smaller items and actually see a few finished.
Blue Table Runner - For Sale
This denim blue fabric line is great. I am going to find a pattern for a tiered skirt and get a little more of it and actually sew something for myself from it. Blue is still my fav color!
Blue Table Runner - For Sale
This cute double four patch table runner is an easy pattern to make up and you can make it from fat quarters in your stash or buy some specially just for this. Pattern is here or click on the Tutorial tab above!
Denim Blue Mug Rug - For Sale
And these mug rugs were made from the selvedge edges of the fabric - usually thrown in the garbage, but not this time!
Denim Blue Mug Rug - For Sale
These were quilt as you go, so when the top was done, so was the quilting! I have a whole tub of selvedges, so there will be plenty more of these in the coming weeks!

Piecefully yours!

Custom Quilts Headed to Texas

Just came back from the Post Office where I sent these quilts off to their new home in Texas! It's so exciting to see where my quilts are ending up and these bright blue quilts were a pleasure to make.

These photos are taken in our basement guest room which was repainted earlier this year from a chocolate brown to a creamy white. The room is much brighter now and the neutral colour means I can now take photos of my quilts there. I still need to make curtains for the window and am thinking that just a plain bleached muslin fabric would be perfect with a little black trim or  embroidery to add some detail.

Blue Tempest #1
Blue Tempest #2
The pattern chosen by the customer was the Tempest from Cherry House Quilts. Isn't it gorgeous here in shades of purple Kona cottons? The pattern was lost in transit and so I just improvised so I could get these quilts completed, but Cherri is resending, so I'll have a copy soon! Cherri is the author of the quilt book "City Quilts" which I've borrowed from the library and is on my quilt book wish list!

My sewing machine has been humming and I will be busy this week finishing gifts for Christmas!

Blue, Blue, this Quilt is Blue!

I've been working over the past month collecting blue fabrics and now piecing them together for a custom quilt order for a Texas customer. She has ordered two twin quilts complete with pillow shams for her son's room.
Stacks of Blue
Just a few blocks done
I love these shades of blue - they make me think about sailing on the ocean! I have one quilt top done today and the other will be done tomorrow and then they are off to Marie of Blueberry Hill Quilts to be quilted!

Sometimes, I just want to go back and remake a quilt I've done before and this is one of those times. I had a bundle of muted green and...
