Pizza Box Challenge

Last year my guild held a pizza box challenge. Everyone was given a pizza box and the instructions were that you could put any instructions in the box and also a piece of fabric if you wanted. The boxes were passed from person to person and at the end, everyone in the exchange would have made a block for your quilt with your instructions.

I didn't spend too much time thinking about what I wanted as I wanted to keep things simple. I put in a piece of bright blue fabric (I think it was about 1.5m) and the instructions to make your favourite block, using the theme of blue and white and the fabric provided should be included in the block.
There were 8 people in the group I was exchanging with and when I got my pizza box back, I added another 8 blocks to make 16.
I ended up adding some yellow to the blocks I made - for some reason, it just adds a little sparkle to the overall quilt.
A blue print for sashing and borders and it's ready to go to the quilters!

Sampler quilts are really a great way to use up scraps and to try new techniques. It was fun to see the different blocks made by my guild exchange group, even though our skill levels range from beginner to advanced.

I can't wait to show you this one all quilted and finished!

WIP Wednesday - February 13

Busy week for me this week. I have a custom order for 8 placemats - almost done, just need to pop into my local quilt shop for fabric for binding. The placemats are made from a fun fat quarter pack called "Cinnamon Spice" by Blackbird Designs from Moda fabrics. I have lots of fabric left, so watch for more items made from this fabric line in the near future!

I also finished the friendship star border on my blue & white quilt and added the final blue print border, bringing it up to a nice lap/twin size quilt top. Just need to look for a backing and this one is ready to go out for quilting!

And finally, I had 5 friendship stars left over after I pieced the border for the bigger blue and white quilt and put them together into a table runner that's now listed for sale in my shop here!

So, that's what's happening in my sewing room this week! How was your week?

3x6 Sampler Blocks in Blue & White

Do you remember these blocks from the Flickr 3x6 Bee Quilt Block exchange? I pulled out the quilt blocks that had yellow and purple in them and made this quilt with batik sashing and borders.
And I had 6 blue and white blocks left that I thought I could make into a baby quilt, but when I got it together, it didn't look very baby-ish to me. And then it was put aside until I could figure out what I wanted to do with it. I decided I would add a pieced border and another border of the same blue I had already used to sash and border the original quilt blocks. I like how it's coming together so far!
I think when I have this blue and white quilt finished, I will go back and join the next exchange again. It's a great challenge for me to work with someone else's colour choices and it's fun to find a unique quilt block to make.

Magic Tiles Quilt

Sometimes, I just want to go back and remake a quilt I've done before and this is one of those times. I had a bundle of muted green and...
